Expert tips from The Chelsea Landscape Gardener

- Timing: Plant between late September and November, before the first hard frost.

- Depth: As a rule of thumb, plant bulbs at three times their height.

- Soil: Well-drained soil is key, soggy ground can cause bulbs to rot.

- Design: Mix early and late bloomers for continuous colour, and consider naturalising bulbs in lawns or under trees for a charming, effortless look.
